DIY Weddings
If you are here it means you are on a budget… like the rest of us :P No panic… DIY Weddings
are possible and often they come out quite nice.
Before you do anything at all, there is one major thing to consider very carefully.
The very minute you hear the words “Wedding Organizer” or “Wedding Planner” you think
“too expensive for me”.
Wait a minute… I know what you’re thinking now and I assure you that I’m not trying to sell you
anything here, so don’t think I’m making a sale pitch, just listen to me: isn’t it worth asking first and adding up
a few numbers… just for the heck of it? What can you lose…
Very often wedding organizers have very special prices only available to them.
In most cases they are able to get a venue for a lot less than you, just because they are deep
into the industry and they have an extensive knowledge about everything involved, including a number of
contacts.
A wedding organizer is usually able to obtain special rates for: the wedding car, the
wedding photographer, the wedding catering, the wedding band, wedding flowers, the
toastmaster, the wedding makeup and much more. You could end up saving BIG money! Just a thought. If your mind is set, then go for it. If not, then have a look at
some reliable wedding organizers. And no, I don’t get a commission if you go with a wedding planner. It’s just
my personal advice.
There are also some great sites out there full of good tips for saving money on the wedding
budget by going the DIY route, like arranging some of your own wedding flowers, or getting some unique Wedding Ideas.
For a start I found a site where you can get yourself a free wedding planner. On this printable wedding planner site, you can print off to do
lists, theme ideas, photography checklist, ceremony ideas,
wedding reception ideas, guestlist and much more. Also worth checking out is Creating a Christian Wedding.
I cannot stress enough the importance of starting to book things early.
If you wait till a month or two before the wedding, you will have a very hard time finding
anything.
On one occasion (and this is the extreme opposite) a couple booked me about two years in
advance... they sure loved each other!
A good time to start acting is eight months to a year in advance. If you are particular about a
specific date, start even earlier as the church is what usually goes first. Some particular and historic churches
are booked even three years in advance.
Wish you all the best with your Big Day and remember... DIY weddings ARE possible!
